ENTRY TO COUNTY COMPETITIONS
Entry to County competitions is key to
your development as an individual competitive swimmer.
If you are new to swimming or coming
through the teaching ranks this is an attempt to help you understand the
process. You will at present be swimming in one of the assigned groups within
the Club on a regular basis. The
sessions you do aim to put excellence into your stroke work set your racing
habits and increase your strength.
There will be some race
simulation offered for you to test your skills.
The first and most frequent
racing opportunity will come in the team situation.
This will be in leagues or inter club competition.
It is where we as a Club get to show off our strength and establish our
reputation. That is sound and highly respected so when you are selected to
represent the Club be proud, cherish the moment and make a positive
contribution.
After these sorts of experiences
in team situations there then comes the time to test yourself as an individual.
Your first experience of this is likely
to be County Competition.
County Competitions are always swum in
the Spring of each year. The
Worcester County competitions are swum in 25m pools at Worcester or
Wolverhampton
To swim in individual competitions
under ASA laws you must be 9 years of age. Your age is calculated as at the last
day of the competition series. If
the last date of the competition is 28 March then your age is calculated on that
date in that year.
To enter County Competition not only do you have to be of the right age but also you must be able to equal or better the set qualifying time. These are published on the Club notice board and on the Web site. Susan Sekula, your County Representative will be able to answer any your questions you may have concerning your entry form or your Personal Best Times (PBs).
Look carefully at the schedule of
events for these change according to your age.
The biggest changes come for girls aged 12 and boys at 13.
Though the competition dates are in March your entry form has to be submitted early in January. This can vary from year to year so please keep an eye on the Notice Board.
It is therefore important that you keep
a record of your best times, as it is these you will use for your entry.
